The God who sees, hears, knows and delivers
For a long time I found it difficult to understand God's love in the Old Testament, after all it seems that he is portrayed in a more "harsh" way in these pages of scripture, but when we look more closely we are surprised and soon realize that God loves us in a surprisingly wonderful way. This is the truth we find in Exodus 3:7-8, a fantastic text that reveals some of the characteristics of God's character and shows us how He is and acts.
Shall we embark on this discovery together?
Exodus 3:7-8
The Lord said: "I have seen the oppression of my people in Egypt, I have heard their cry because of their masters, and I know how much they are suffering. That is why I have come down to deliver them out of the hands of the Egyptians and to bring them out of here to a good and vast land flowing with milk and honey: the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Pherezeans, the Hivites and the Jebusites.
Reading this text makes some things very clear about God and I want to highlight each of them below:
1 - HE IS THE GOD WHO SEES...
He sees the afflictions you've been through, He sees the sufferings you face, He sees the injustices you suffer, He sees the tears you shed, maybe no one else does and maybe you feel alone because of it, but you're not alone, God who looks at you, He is the God who sees you.
2 - HE IS THE GOD WHO LISTENS...
Just as he sees everything we go through, he also hears us. He hears our cries, he hears our prayers, he hears our tears when we pour out our souls before him in anguish.
3 - HE IS THE GOD WHO KNOWS...
Dear ones, of all the verbs that appear in verses 7 and 8, this is the one I like the most, because when the Bible says that God knows what we are going through, it doesn't express an empty and distant action, but an action that is close to identifying with us, look at what Hebrews 4:14-15 says:
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has entered heaven, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to the faith we profess, for we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who, like us, has been through every kind of temptation, yet without sin.
4 - HE IS THE GOD WHO COMES DOWN / HE DELIVERS...
And things don't stop there, God doesn't just see, He doesn't just hear, He doesn't just know, but He interacts. Isn't that wonderful?
He comes to meet us, he comes towards us to deliver us because he loves us and because he cares for us. If you keep reading this story you'll see exactly that, a God who cares so much that he intervenes in history to deliver a people and lead them through the desert to a land flowing with milk and honey. Also, look at what the prophet Isaiah says about this in Isaiah 64:4:
Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, and no eye has seen a God other than you, who works for those who hope in him.
Isn't it wonderful, my friends, to know that GOD CARES ABOUT YOU?
Yes, GOD cares about you, He sees your afflictions, He hears your cry, He knows the afflictions you are going through and He comes to meet you to deliver you and lead you to a better place.
May this truth ignite your love for Him, may this truth warm your heart and may it renew your love for Him, because He loves you and cares for you in a surprisingly wonderful way.
A big hug and a loving kiss
